Hot sauce three ways

  1. Interesting as I’m in the NW and I’ve never had a problem growing chili peppers – in fact serrano peppers have always been my Old Reliable in the garden and I’ve had no problem growing jalapenos, habaneros and Scotch bonnets – ironically growing masses of bell peppers has always been more of a challenge for me, very on and off results! 🙂

  2. I’m really not laughing. In San Diego it’s 80 again this week and that brings a whole different set of challenges. My avocado trees want to bloom, because I’m pretty sure at this point they think it’s March and the 60 mph winds are a big help in getting the fruit off the trees for us (except we don’t want the fruit off quite yet). So you should be proud of your 5 habaneros, you overcame a lot of adversity to grow them and I’m sure they were amazing. I have to thank you for sharing the fermented hot sauce. I’m a huge fermented food fan and seem to forget about planting for it. I’ll get some chilis started this weekend, I mean it is supposed to get into the upper 80s again and the soil temp is just above freezing at 60 so I should be good 🙂

  4. Nice post! I’m quite a fan of padron peppers for the same gambling thrill. Random factoid, you can reuse bourbon barrels for making alcohol but by definition you can’t reuse it for making bourbon – they have to be aged in new barrels.
